NXP ICODE SLIX and SLIX2 operate at 13.56 MHz under ISO/IEC 15693, the vicinity standard built for inventory rather than access: gate readers reach roughly 3 ft / 1 m and read many tags in one pass, EAS provides security-gate alarms, and AFI lets mixed tag populations be filtered by application. American Key Cards supplies ICODE media as book labels, wash-resistant laundry tags, asset labels and ISO cards, blank or pre-encoded. ICODE has no cryptographic authentication and should not be used as a door credential.

Can NXP ICODE SLIX (ISO 15693) cards be cloned?
Yes — NXP ICODE SLIX (ISO 15693) is an open format that can be reproduced from its facility code and card number. We don't copy individual cards on request, though — we manufacture new, correctly-encoded credentials for the systems you own or manage.
ICODE SLIX is an open vicinity chip with no cryptographic authentication — memory blocks are readable and writable by any ISO 15693 reader unless block-locked, and tag contents can be reproduced. Its strengths are long-range multi-tag inventory reading, EAS gate alarms and AFI filtering, not access security. SLIX2 adds password-protected EAS and privacy modes. Do not use ICODE as a door credential.

What is the difference between ISO 15693 and ISO 14443 at the same 13.56 MHz?
Read range and purpose. ISO 14443 (MIFARE, NTAG) is a proximity standard — a few centimeters, built for credentials and payments. ISO 15693 (ICODE) is a vicinity standard — up to roughly 3 ft / 1 m on gate readers, with fast multi-tag anti-collision, built for inventory: reading a shelf of books or a cart of garments in one pass. The two are not interchangeable; readers must support the specific standard.
Do library security gates work with ICODE SLIX tags?
Yes — EAS (Electronic Article Surveillance) is built into the chip. When an item is checked out, the system disarms the tag's EAS bit; walking an armed tag through the gates triggers the alarm. This is why ICODE SLIX became the de facto standard for library RFID in North America.
Can a phone read ISO 15693 tags?
Mostly yes. ISO 15693 is NFC-V: iPhone 7 and later can read it through an app, and most NFC-enabled Android phones support it. Range from a phone is short (contact distance) — the long ranges come from dedicated gate and inventory readers.
