Can you buy third-party HID iCLASS Elite cards?
HID iCLASS Elite is the iCLASS SE platform issued under HID's Elite Key program, which replaces HID's shared standard key with a master key unique to your organization. It isn't a different chip — it's a key-custody model, and it means credentials can only be reissued by whoever holds your Elite key, through HID's channel. No independent supplier can produce Elite-keyed credentials.

iCLASS Elite trips people up because it's not a product you can point at on a shelf — it's a key program layered onto iCLASS SE. This page explains what that means for the person running the doors: how Elite changes ordering and reissuance, why key custody is the whole game, and where an outside supplier fits (the proximity side, not the Elite side).
Elite is a key program, not a card
The most important thing to understand about iCLASS Elite is that there is no separate 'Elite chip.' Elite-keyed credentials are ordinary iCLASS SE cards issued under HID's Elite Key program, which substitutes HID's global standard authentication key with a master key generated uniquely for your organization. Everything else — the SE secure element, the AES architecture, the Secure Identity Object model — is the same as standard SE.
What the unique key buys you is isolation. A standard-keyed credential shares HID's global key with countless other sites; an Elite-keyed credential answers only to your organization's key. That isolation is why government contractors, defense sites, and large healthcare networks adopt Elite — it decouples their security from anyone else's.
Custody is everything
Because the Elite master key is unique to your organization, whoever holds it controls credential issuance entirely. HID and your integrator hold copies under the program's custody rules; your readers are provisioned with it through a secure access module. That custody chain is the security model — and it's exactly why no outside vendor can produce Elite credentials. There is no key to buy and no shortcut around it.
Operationally, this means your key custody arrangement is a thing to actively manage, not file and forget. Know who holds your Elite key, how reissuance requests are authorized, and what your continuity plan is if your integrator relationship changes. The strength of Elite is directly proportional to how disciplined that custody is.
Reissuance and expansion
Adding or replacing Elite credentials always routes through the Elite-key custodian: your integrator submits the order provisioned to your master key, and you revoke lost credentials in your management software. Because the key is required at issuance, there's no faster path — and that's by design, since a faster path would undermine the isolation Elite exists to provide.
For a large intake or a multi-site rollout, plan lead time around your integrator's Elite-issuance process rather than off-the-shelf availability. Elite is a deliberate, controlled program; its logistics reflect that.
What we can and can't do
We can't supply Elite-keyed credentials, full stop — the program is built specifically so that only your key custodian can. We won't imply otherwise. What we can supply is the open 125 kHz proximity credentials that live in the same buildings, and interim proximity stock during any migration.

How to order HID iCLASS Elite credentials
Elite-keyed credentials require your organization's unique Elite master key to provision, held by HID and your integrator. Reissuance therefore goes through the administrator who holds that key, via HID's channel. American Key Cards cannot supply Elite-keyed credentials — the whole point of the program is that no one outside your key custody can produce one.

What is the HID Elite Key program?

Can iCLASS Elite credentials be supplied by a third party?
