Because Hitag2 carries no real cryptographic protection, these proximity tokens are cloneable to other Hitag2 tags, whereas Paxton's separate 13.56 MHz line uses MIFARE Classic (clonable) or MIFARE DESFire (encrypted, not clonable) on multi-format readers like the P50. Can Paxton Net2 (Proximity Token, Hitag2) cards be cloned?
Yes — Paxton Net2 (Proximity Token, Hitag2) is an open format that can be reproduced from its facility code and card number. We don't copy individual cards on request, though — we manufacture new, correctly-encoded credentials for the systems you own or manage.
Paxton's standard Net2 'Proximity' tokens (the 692-500 card and 695-644 fob) are 125 kHz Hitag2 — not 13.56 MHz MIFARE, a point that is frequently misstated. The Paxton encoding adds a password-exchange step between token and reader, but the password is shared across Paxton tokens and readers, so these tokens can be copied to other Hitag2 tags with appropriate tools and are not cryptographically secure. For clone-resistant deployments, Paxton sells a separate 13.56 MHz line: MIFARE Classic tokens (which are themselves clonable) and MIFARE DESFire tokens (which use AES/3DES encryption and are not clonable) used with Paxton multi-format MIFARE readers such as the P50. Is the Paxton Net2 proximity card 125 kHz or 13.56 MHz?
The standard Net2 Proximity tokens — the 692-500 ISO card and 695-644 key fob — are 125 kHz Hitag2 credentials, not 13.56 MHz MIFARE. This is a common point of confusion: Paxton uses 13.56 MHz MIFARE only for its separate higher-security token line, which requires Paxton MIFARE-capable readers such as the P50.
Are Paxton Net2 tokens cloneable?
The standard Net2 Hitag2 proximity tokens can be copied to other Hitag2 tags with the right tools — the Paxton password step is shared across tokens and does not provide cryptographic protection. If you need credentials that resist cloning, use Paxton's 13.56 MHz MIFARE DESFire tokens, which are encrypted and not clonable; note that MIFARE Classic tokens, by contrast, can be cloned. American Key Cards supplies compatible Net2 Hitag2 tokens rather than cloning existing cards.
Will a standard HID 26-bit prox card work on a Paxton Net2 reader?
No. Net2 proximity readers expect Paxton/Hitag2 (and, on multi-format models, EM4100 or MIFARE) tokens, not HID H10301 26-bit prox. A standard HID card will not be recognized. American Key Cards supplies Net2-compatible Hitag2 proximity cards and fobs that read directly on Paxton Net2 readers.
