What is a UHF RFID windshield tag or long-range credential?
UHF long-range credentials are RAIN RFID media — EPC Gen2v2 / ISO 18000-63 windshield tags, ISO cards and adhesive labels on Impinj Monza and Alien Higgs-class inlays — that read at roughly 3–35 feet instead of inches, for parking gates, fleet lanes and asset tracking. American Key Cards specifies each order against your reader model, mounting surface and required range, since real-world range is a system property, and quotes accordingly.

About UHF long-range
Proximity cards read at inches; UHF reads at car lengths. RAIN RFID (EPC Gen2 / ISO 18000-6C) credentials are what let a gate arm rise while the vehicle is still rolling, a warehouse portal inventory a pallet without stopping it, and a parking garage recognize a monthly parker hands-free. Same RFID idea, completely different physics — and the physics is where UHF projects succeed or fail.

How to order UHF long-range correctly
- Range is a system property, not a tag spec
The numbers on tag datasheets assume ideal readers and antennas. Your real range depends on reader power, antenna placement, tag surface and interference — send the reader model and we spec honestly.
- Metal changes everything
Standard UHF labels on metal read at zero range. On-metal constructions with a foam or ceramic spacer solve it at a modest premium — cheaper than a re-tagging project.
- US frequency band
UHF tags are region-tuned; FCC-band (902–928 MHz) inlays are correct for US readers. Dual ETSI/FCC inlays exist for international fleets.

How far will a windshield tag actually read?
Typical gate installations achieve 10–20 ft reliably, with well-tuned lanes reaching further. The reader and antenna do most of the work — we quote range against your actual hardware, not the brochure.
Can UHF replace our clickers at the community gate?
Yes, if your gate controller has (or gains) a UHF reader — most modern gate systems accept Wiegand output from one. Residents then never press anything; the car is the credential.
Why did the labels we bought elsewhere fail on our racks?
Almost certainly standard labels on metal — the surface detunes the antenna to nothing. On-metal labels are engineered for exactly that placement, which is why we ask about surfaces before quoting.
Is UHF secure enough for access control?
UHF prioritizes range over cryptography, so treat it as convenient identification: right for gates and parking, usually paired with cameras, wrong for a server-room door. We are straightforward about that trade.
